蟹鴴 Crab Plover, Dromas ardeola

這種鳥叫做蟹鴴(Crab Plover, Dromas ardeola)，是蟹鴴科(Dromadidae)裡唯一一種鳥(單種科)，主要分布於印度洋西部的海岸(非洲東岸、馬達加斯加、紅海、印度西岸)。顧名思義主要以螃蟹等甲殼類為主食，看起來很厲害對不對？但是處理這種甲殼類其實還滿麻煩的，而且有一定程度的危險性(Tsipoura and Burger 1999)。所以這些處理特殊獵物的水鳥，幼鳥和成鳥的覓食效率的落差就很大。對就是幼鳥很菜還不會處理食物，像這種蟹鴴甚至會跑去和同類要東西吃(Sanctis et al. 2005)。蠣鴴(Eurasian Oystercatcher, Haematopus ostralegus)也是一個例子，他們要花一些時間學會敲開牡蠣，所有有一些蠣鴴幼鳥會去偷同類處理好的食物來吃(Goss-Custard et al. 1998)。
